Club Statement

JULES MUMFORD STEPS DOWN   (Thursday 25 May 2017)

Jules Mumford

It was confirmed last night that Jules Mumford has stepped down from his position as First Team Manager at Long Melford Football Club.

Everybody at the club would like to place on record their thanks to Jules for his outstanding efforts over the past 5 seasons.

In that time Jules took the team from the bottom of the Thurlow Nunn First Division to promotion as Champions and then two seasons in the Premier Division (the highest level the club has ever played at in its history dating back nearly 150 years).

Thanks to Jules for answering these questions from website editor Andy Cussans:

AC: From perennial strugglers to Champions and 2 seasons in the Premier....you must be very proud of the impact you've had at the club?

JM: Yes I'm very proud of my time at the club and what we've all achieved together. I've had some great people and players around me to get us to where we are.

AC: Why do you feel now is the right time to step down?

JM: I've been toying with retiring for a while but carried on because I couldn't walk away. This time around it feels right as I've lost the hunger for another season and I don't want to do it half hearted, which wouldn't be fair on the club, supporters or players.

AC: What will you miss most about managing the club?

JM: I'll miss the banter with the boys the most, I loved the away days on the mini bus. Such a special group of lads who I'll miss immensely.

AC: How does it make you feel to be one of the club's most successful managers in it's near 150 year history?

JM: Very proud to have managed the club,  I never really look at it like that but it sounds good when you say it.

AC: What are your plans for the future football-wise? Do you think you'll return to management soon?

JM: I'm looking forward to having a break from it all, then I will just follow and support my son wherever he plays his football (so I'll be tapping Stu and Ray up to give him a run out!). I will never say I won't return to management because I'm passionate about it and I do love the game, but I can't see it being any time too soon.

Thanks again to Jules for a very successful 5 years on the pitch, some great memories for us all including of course that special day in April 2015 when the club won the First Division title.

The club is now looking to appoint a new First Team Manager - to apply for the position please email your football CV/background to woodhousealf@gmail.com by Monday 5th June.
