First Team Squad News

The club would like to welcome four new additions to the First Team squad ahead of the 2017/18 season:

Callum Hemson (pictured right) was previously with the AFC Sudbury Academy and featured a couple of times for Melford last season. He has impressed in the outings during pre-season and is a positive addition to our right flank.

Michael Schofield has played for Stanway Rovers and Wivenhoe Town, and also briefly with Melford manager Jamie Bradbury at Boxted Lodgers a few years ago. He’s a hard-working and committed midfielder, very good on the ball and has settled in really well in pre-season.

Elliot Walker was previously with Jamie at Boxted Lodgers, and is someone Jamie has always thought would do well given the chance to step up a level. Another good option in midfield, and capable in other positions, too, he has just finished university and is now back in the area and looking to impress at Melford.

Luke Payne is a strong and technical forward, previously with Stanway Rovers  and Cornard United. He has been with us since the start of pre-season and will be a very good addition to our frontline. Coming back from a few months out with injury, he has performed well in three friendlies and notched in the win over Capel.

11 of last season's First Team squad have also re-signed for the new season:

Darren Moyes (Goalkeeper) - A key figure in the team's improvement during the second half of last season, his penalty save against Kirkley in January proved to be the turning point in the season.

Anthony Waugh (Defender) - Last season's Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year, Ant has been outstanding at the heart of the Melford defence over the past three seasons.

Josh Collins (Defender) - Josh made 29 appearances last season after joining from Cornard United and acquitted himself very well in his first Thurlow Nunn Premier campaign.

Steve Adams (Defender) - Captain and a dominant figure in both boxes, Steve has played 161 games for the club scoring 20 goals.

Dan Swain (Defender/Midfield) - Over 100 appearances for the club and one of the team's most consistent performers either in central midfield or left back.

Jake Jackson (Defender/Midfield) - Jake is in his fourth season with the club since joining from AFC Sudbury, adds a touch of class to the midfield and is also comfortable at the back.

Scott Sloots (Midfield) - A good addition last season, Scott's arrival bolstered the midfield and coincided with the team's climb up the table after the Christmas.

Hassan Ally (Midfield / Forward) - A very entertaining player to watch with his pace and skill, it was no surprise Hass became an instant favourite with the Melford supporters last season.

Sam Bayliss (Midfield / Forward) Another very popular player with the fans after stepping up from the Youth team as a 16 year old, Sam is now in his sixth season with the club. Scored the club's first ever Step 5 goal in August 2015.

Nathan Rowe (Midfield / Forward) - A regular in the team over the past 4 seasons, with a healthy scoring record of a goal every 4 games despite mainly playing on the wing.

Will Wingfield (Forward) - Will scored on his debut in the FA Vase win at Woodbridge in 2012, he's gone on to score 30 goals in 107 games. Last season's top scorer.

Update from manager Jamie Bradbury:

"We’re very pleased to get the new lads into the squad as they will all add quality and energy to the side, and complement the players we have kept on from last season.

I’m still hopeful of adding two or three new faces to the group, in addition to signing four of the other lads from last season, and with our reserve team also looking strong and competitive this season, I’m happy with the way the club is shaping up ahead of the new season.

We know it is going to be a strong division this season, but we are all looking forward to the challenge. "
