Another outstanding performance from The Villagers, which gave them a richly deserved victory over promotion chasing Brantham, on a wet and blustery day on the edge of the Stour Estuary. 

The first half was not an impressive affair with both teams failing to get any real momentum, Melford probably had a little more in the way of flair. 

Wind at their backs Brantham could not make much impression on a resolute Melford defence, and it was Melford who looked slightly more capable. 

Home keeper Callum Robinson saved well from a long range effort from David Lopez, whilst at the other end a shot from Peter Maina was cleared by the Melford defence. 

For Melford the pace of both Hassan Ally and Lewis Haughton always held a threat to the Brantham defence. 

After 38 minutes the best chance arrived for Brantham when a George Clarke shot was deflected over the Melford crossbar. 

Just before half time, a fantastic run by Melford full back Josh Collins, and his shot on the run was inches wide of the target. 

Overall the second half belonged to Melford. Early on Brantham threatened, but were caught off side three times in six minutes, which started to prove a frustration. 

After Craig Hughes put a Brantham free kick high and wide, Melford perhaps should have taken the lead, Ally found space down the left flank and his cross saw the onrushing Callum Hemson just short of converting from close range. 

The Villagers went ahead after 65 minutes. A free kick was awarded on the left flank and some 35 yards from goal an excellent effort from DAVID LOPEZ completely deceived keeper Robinson to find the top of the net. Brilliance at its best. 

The home team responded immediately a Hughes free kick found the head of Jack Smith, and his effort was cleared off the Melford goal line. 

After 79 minutes Melford could have doubled their lead when the pace of Haughton took him on goal with the home defence beaten, but his shot was parried by Robinson the home keeper. 

The home team made three changes at once, bringing on three very experienced players, but to no avail as Melford fought like tigers and deservedly took away all three points.
