Match Report v Ely City (h)

Long Melford 1 - 5 Ely City

Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Saturday 10 February

PICTURED: Hassan Ally scored a late consolation goal on an otherwise disappointing day, as Melford's excellent recent run of form came to an end at Stoneylands.

There were 5 changes to last week's Melford starting line-up. Match report from Chenoberet...

After their recent high flying performances Melford plunged to the ground without a parachute, against an Ely City side who on the day were better in every department.

After only 9 minutes Ely went ahead when a Lee Reed corner found DAN BROWN at the near post and he squeezed the ball past David Leader in the Melford goal.

In truth Brown should have doubled the Ely lead after 31 minutes but blazed high and wide from only four yards out.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the home team, outjumped for headers, out fought in tackles and losing the ball in the wrong areas of the pitch.

The game was held up for some six minutes after 33 minutes when an official had to limp off injured, with Club staff having to take over on line duties.

The home team had only two chances in the first half, a shot by Andy Fisher saved by the keeper, and a missed header by Nathan Rowe from a good position.

The normal second half improvement did not arrive for Melford and many home supporters left before the end of the game.

On 52 minutes Ely scored their second, LEE REED from the penalty spot.

On 58 minutes DAN BROWN scored his second of the game, and ALEX THEOBALD added a fourth when his lob caught keeper Leader in no mans land.

It got worse for Melford after 80 minutes when Nathan Rowe was red carded for a bad tackle.

Just time for HASSAN ALLY to pull back a goal on 90 minutes, and in added time DAN BROWN scored his hat trick from the penalty spot.

Hopefully a temporary blip for Melford, before they entertain Histon at Melford next Saturday.

MELFORD: David Leader, Dan Smith, Josh Collins, Elliot Walker, Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh, David Lopez (75), Callum Hemson, Andy Fisher (61), Dan Swain (59), Nathan Rowe

Subs: Will Wingfield (75), Hassan Ally (61), Scott Sloots (59)

Subs not used: Ben Judge, Josh Shepherd (gk)
