Following on from Tuesday's win at Hadleigh, it was another three points to end a successful season for The Villagers. 

Although Melford dominated possession they did at times allow a little complacency to creep in and Fakenham had a few good chances to score. 

The first real chance came for Fakenham after Melford had forced two early corners. Without a real committed challenge ex Norwich City Academy player Reece Taylor ran through the Melford defence, the advancing Melford keeper Shane Bethell dived to save but the Norfolk youngster lost control of the ball and it went for a Melford goal kick. 

After David Lopez had a header pushed over the Fakenham bar, Melford at last got their just rewards after 28 minutes.

An excellent ball from defence found Hassan Ally free down the Melford left flank and his cross found the speedy CALLUM HEMSON who scored from close range. 

At the other end Bethell dived to push round the post a shot from Connor Charlesworth to keep the Melford lead. 

It was now relentless Melford pressure with Steve Adams and Hemson hitting the goal post and Elliot Walker inches wide with a volley. 

The pressure brought reward after 38 minutes, a Lopez corner saw Will Wingfield hit the post and the rebound was forced home by ROSS WAUGH the Melford central defender. 

Although Melford continued to manage the game over the second period at times their passing was a little slack and from one of these lapses Ricky Claxton was inches wide with a fine shot. 

On 60 minutes Melford got their final goal, a great pass from Hemson found HASSAN ALLY down the Melford left flank, and he fired home from the angle. 

Again at the other end Bethell did well to push round the post a shot from Charlesworth after Melford had lost possession. 

The golden moment of the game arrived after 85 minutes. Aaron Pengelly crossed into the box and Darren Moyes, playing as a striker as opposed to goalkeeper (in his last game before retirement) glanced the ball towards goal with his head and only an exceptional save by Fakenham keeper Rix robbed Moyes of retiring with a glory goal to his name.  CHENOBERET

  • Melford finish the season in 16th position with 59 points. It was relegation form at the start of the season (8 points from the opening 14 matches) but from October onwards it's been a big improvement.
