Match Report v FC Clacton (a)

FC CLACTON 1 - 0 LONG MELFORD

Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Saturday 24 February - Att: 89

A combination of a difficult pitch and a strong wind made for a scrappy game of football on the Essex coast today.

Although there was not a lot between the two sides, overall it was FC Clacton who adapted better to the conditions and produced the moment of quality to win the match. Match report from Chenoberet...

With the wind at their backs Clacton scored their winning goal after 14 minutes, the ball came loose to KEVIN COYLE ten yards in his own half, spotting Melford keeper Tim Brown three yards off his line, his flighted effort went this great distance over the head of keeper Brown and into the net.

On 40 minutes Melford had another let off when a Harvey Cowler free kick was prodded onwards and hit the goal post and bounced back into the arms of Brown in the Melford goal.

This was a true Jekyll and Hyde performance from Melford after their magnificent performance last week.

There was little of note in the second period other than Dan Smith heading off the Melford line an effort from Terry Rymer the much travelled Clacton striker.

At the other end a David Lopez free kick was deflected and home custodian Luke Avenell pushed the ball over the bar.

Just time for local hero Kevin Coyle to get himself sent off for throwing a punch at an opponent after a tackle, meaning Clacton were down to ten men for the last twenty minutes.

Although Melford huffed and puffed it was of little use, and they ended up defeated on a day they will want to quickly forget.

MELFORD: Tim Brown, Dan Smith, Josh Collins (73), Ben Judge (45), Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh, Hassan Ally, David Lopez, Steve Adams (73), Scott Sloots, Lewis Haughton

Subs: Callum Hemson (73), Ashley Sloots (73), Elliot Walker (45)
