Match Report v Histon

Histon 3 - 1 Long Melford

Thurlow Nunn Premier - 22 August - Att: 130

Tonight's result at unbeaten Histon was very harsh on Melford, who for periods of the game played attractive football and took the lead, only to concede twice in the last five minutes.

It was an exciting game with end to end football, former Melford striker Matt Hayden tested Darren Moyes in the Melford goal in the opening exchanges, whilst Scott Sloots and Luke Payne had efforts off target at the other end.

Just before half time Melford had a glorious chance when Hassan Ally put Nathan Rowe in on goal but his shot went straight at Adrian Duffey the home keeper.

After the interval Melford started to control the game with Dan Swain close to scoring, at the other end Hayden came close with an angled shot.

After 54 minutes Melford went ahead from the penalty spot after Hassan Ally was fouled in the area. The kick was converted by JOSH HODGSON who found the net with ease.

It seemed that Melford might hold onto their lead until the 68th minute, when a speculative 30 yard shot from JOE SUTTON deceived keeper Moyes and found the top corner of the net.

The home team adapted to a long ball game and from this after 86 minutes, after a challenge in the box a great shock to Melford when the referee awarded a penalty. Up stepped ED ROLPH to convert and send a wave of excitement round the Glassworld Stadium.

This completely undermined Melford who had worked so hard all evening and pressing for a leveller a Will Wingfield effort was cleared off the goal line, Histon broke upfield to DANNY GOULD to run through and convert, a real killer blow for The Villagers.  CHENOBERET
