Match Report v Saffron Walden Town (a)

Saffron Walden Town 2 - 0 Long Melford

Thurlow Nunn Premier - Fri 06 October 2017

Another improved performance from the Villagers, after an evenly balanced first half they will feel disappointed to have conceded in the last minute before half time.

In the opening minutes Melford keeper Darren Moyes did well to cope with a deflected shot from Oliver Emsden, followed by an effort from Connor Molloy that flashed wide of the Melford goal.

Playing with a lot more attacking flair than earlier in the season, Melford started to impress with some neat football with Hassan Ally and Callum Hemson on the flanks proving difficult all evening for the Walden defence.

It could have been a first half lead for Melford after 35 minutes, a bouncing ball cleared Ryan Fleming in the Walden defence and fell at the feet of Hemson, and the Melford youngster was through into the Walden area, but his shot nestled into the body of home keeper Neil O'Sullivan, an excellent chance not taken by Melford.

Just before the interval the home team forced a succession of corners, and on 44 minutes ex Melford player RYAN FLEMING was free at the back post to head home.

The home team had the better of the second period with Melford at times receding into a defensive mode and early in the half Darren Moyes made another good save from another ex Melford player Dan Grindrod.

The home team sensed that another goal was in the offing and it duly arrived after 61 minutes, some neat passing between James Crane and Thomas Lakin saw the latter pull back a pass to the feet of JAMES CRANE and he converted from fifteen yards.

Although Melford brought on two substitutes they could not get back into the game, and without doubt they do need to bolster their forward line if they are to convert the chances that they do create. CHENOBERET
