Match Report v Stanway Rovers (h)

Long Melford 3 - 1 Stanway Rovers

Thurlow Nunn Premier - Friday 17 November - Att: 84

PICTURED: Callum Hemson scored twice tonight for an improving Melford, who've picked up 13 points from the last 6 matches. Match report from Chenoberet:

Despite a shaky start, The Villagers produced another very competent performance to climb the table away from the relegation zone.

It was a tough opening five minutes for the home team with keeper Darren Moyes saving well on the goal line, and a minute later central defender Anthony Waugh replicated with a block and clearance off the line.

Then gradually Melford got into their stride and went ahead after 11 minutes, a ball to the Melford right flank found CALLUM HEMSON in space and his shot from the edge of the box deflected into the net.

Then for a period of time Stanway took control and after 26 minutes Romario Dunne had an excellent chance but shot straight at keeper Moyes.

Again Stanway should have done better after 35 minutes a Melford defender slipped on the frosty surface, allowing Morisi Gelashvili in on goal but from four yards out he only found the Melford side netting.

After 42 minutes Melford increased their lead. Steve Adams had a run at goal and his shot found a Stanway defender who turned the ball into his own net.

The second period started with play fluctuating from end to end, Kyelan Marvell came close with a free kick for Stanway whilst Adams headed wide for the home team.

After 60 minutes the best Melford goal arrived, Nathan Rowe saw his shot parried by keeper Andrew Plummer and it broke loose to CALLUM HEMSON who drilled the ball home from a tight angle.

Stanway got a goal back after 72 minutes when a cross found ROMARIO DUNNE and he neatly finished from the edge of the box.

Still time for Melford to miss a golden chance on 75 minutes when the ball came to the unmarked Hassan Ally but he blazed his fierce effort over the bar.

Although Stanway tried to get back in the game the resolute Melford defence were always in control.

MELFORD: Darren Moyes, Dan Smith, Josh Collins (82), Elliot Walker, Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh, Hassan Ally (85), Dan Swain, Steve Adams, Nathan Rowe, Callum Hemson (68)

Subs: Jason Joseph (85), Scott Sloots (82), Ben Judge (68)

not used: Stuart Malseed, Jamie Bradbury
