Reserves

Long Melford Reserves play their league football in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League. They also play in two cup competitions; the Suffolk Reserve Cup and the Chell Trophy.

Last season the Reserves finished 17th. Jack Hubbard picked up both awards (Manager's Player and Players' Player) at the end of season presentation night.

The Reserves are under new management in 2016/17 (Edd Keogh, Gary Watson, James Janzen).

RESERVES LOSE OPENER (August 18, 2016)

The Reserves played their first League game of the season last night, losing 3-1 at home to Whitton United Reserves.

With 13 new players in the squad last night it's going to take a while for the side to gel but it was an encouraging start, particularly after conceding inside 20 seconds.

Melford's goal was scored by Stuart Malseed on debut, while another debutant was sent off for behaviour that has no place at Long Melford FC.

Whitton's goals were scored by Charlie Askew (2) and Jay O'Sullivan.

  • Next match for the Reserves is away to Whitton on Saturday 27 August.

RESERVES UPDATE (August 04, 2016)

Last Night's Friendly:

The Reserves played their first match under new management last night; a pre-season friendly at home to Glemsford & Cavendish.

Most of the Melford players were playing together for the first time and it showed in the first half, going down 5-1 by the interval. But there was improvement in the second half, getting back to 5-3 at the final whistle.

Melford's goals were scored by Ally Hassan who won and converted two penalties, and Ryan Luckman who scored from a long range free-kick into the top corner.

2016/17 Season

The Reserves' new season was meant to start next Saturday (13th) but their opponents on that day (Lowestoft Town) have decided to withdraw from the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League.

This means the Reserves will now start their season on Wednesday 17th August at home to Whitton United (7.45pm).

Polo Shirts

The Reserves setup have acquired new polo shirts, sponsored by Impact Coatings (www.impactcoatings.co.uk) who we would like to thank for their support.
