The View From The Dugout

The View From The Dugout

" It is fair to say it’s been a rollercoaster season and, after such a tough opening couple of months, we have done very well to secure Premier Division status a few weeks ago and finish in 16th, which we would have taken at the start of the season.

This side has demonstrated with some terrific results and performances just how good they can be.

It’s our job to now strengthen in a couple of key areas and look to push on even higher next year. We always want to improve.

I want to say a few thanks. Firstly, to the lads who have grafted hard and sacrificed their time for the love of the game. We don't have the option of throwing around cash, but what that does mean is you get a group of committed players who are in it for the football.

Likewise, Mick, Brian and Josh, who sadly had to step down recently, have been great support. Meanwhile Stuart with the Reserves deserves credit for the, at times, thankless job he has done.

Appreciation also to all the Directors, in particular Richard and Alf who put so much work in for the club and I can assure them it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Rob and Kempy have also given me lots of encouragement throughout the season when things were difficult.

Andy continues to do great work to promote the club on the website and social media, as well as bringing the programme to life.

Also thank you to Michelle behind the bar and Judith on the gate, and Debs for excellent post-match food and a lovely cuppa before games.

Ivan has yet again worked magic on the pitch and ensures we have one of the best surfaces in the division.

Finally, though, thanks to everyone who turns out to support the boys. We have a great following on the road, and when we play at home, the noise over by the bar has certainly won us points. Newmarket was one of the highlights, but there have been many.

The fact that you all love it when we win and are disappointed when we lose shows that you care about the team and that, while we may be a small club, we are all one big team.

A special mention needs to be made for Darren Moyes. He’s been top class for Long Melford and very much missed since his injury, but has decided to hang up his gloves at the end of the season, with a second child on the way very soon. The Thurlow Nunn League will be poorer without Moyesy, and I wish him my very best.

The bar has been raised higher for 2018/19, and we intend on making next year even more successful for Long Melford Football Club, I hope you can all join us...

All the best and have a great summer. "
