FRIDAY 15 SEPTEMBER 2017

Update from the First Team management team (photo credit: Suffolk Free Press)

" Tomorrow we welcome FC Clacton to Stoneylands. Those of you who were here for the corresponding fixture last season will remember an epic encounter and at one stage it looked like we had wrapped up a convincing victory, before a Clacton fightback almost earned them a point. Thankfully we held on to collect a valuable 4-3 victory, on what was no doubt an entertaining afternoon for those watching.

Hopefully it will be another enjoyable day for those who make the effort to come and support the players and clubs. Make sure you also have a beer in the bar and a burger from Deb’s Diner.

Our form of late has fluctuated a lot and after two dreadful performances against Godmanchester and Saffron Walden, the lads responded well with a display against Halstead in the Vase that deserved more than it got. Well played to the visitors who nicked it at the end, but we had the chances earlier in the game to have it done and dusted.

But performing to our levels one game in every four or five is not acceptable, and those who follow us each week, and work behind the scenes to keep the club ticking over, deserve more.

It’s not as though we aren’t creating chances, but in and around the penalty area is where we need to be more ruthless. That’s not just about the forwards, but everyone. Football is a team effort; we defend from the front and attack from the back. It is something we will be working on now we are able to train more with no midweek games for a few weeks, so hopefully we can start turning the good displays and chances into points to build a bit of confidence and momentum

Thanks again for your support, have a safe journey home after the game tomorrrow and we hope to see as many of you back here next Saturday when we entertain Ipswich Wanderers in a re-arranged fixture following our FA Vase exit. "
