September Review

September started with heavy defeats for the First Team against Godmanchester and Saffron Walden.

There was a significant improvement in the next two games against Halstead and Clacton - losing both of those close matches in the last few minutes was very harsh but at least there were some positives in the performances.

Four points from the next two matches against Ipswich Wanderers and Fakenham Town were much needed – although the league table still doesn’t exactly look great, it's better than a few weeks ago.

Overall it’s not a huge surprise to see the team finding it tough again this season, we expected it to be a real battle and similar to last season scoring enough goals is always going to be the challenge.

It looks a strong squad defensively, apart from a bad week against Godmanchester and Walden, and the creativity is there with the likes of Hass, Will, Callum etc but we’ve obviously got to produce more cutting edge to find the goals to keep us in the Premier.

It’s not been the best of starts for the Reserves – the 2-2 draw at Felixstowe earlier this month is the only positive to speak of so far, although it’s been a tough run of fixtures and we’ll hope for better against fellow bottom half sides in the next couple of games.

Coming up next Wednesday (11th October) it’s the Suffolk Premier Cup tie at home to Ipswich Town. Whatever the result it will be a memorable evening as we very rarely get to play clubs of that stature. Obviously it will be a youthful Ipswich side rather than Championship regulars, but even still they are very talented players and hopefully some will end up in being first team regulars in the near future.
