ELLIOT WALKER UPDATE

ELLIOT WALKER UPDATE

It’s more than a year since Villagers midfielder Elliot Walker sustained a season-ending knee injury away at Clacton.

The 1-1 draw on 27 October 2018 was Elliot’s 56th appearance for the club, and he’s yet to return to the pitch.

But the injury has not stopped him staying involved at Stoneylands, he is currently helping Reserves manager Mike Davis.

Meanwhile, he’s targeting a return to action in the new year and getting back in black and white.

“It’s all been a bit surreal, going from being rested for the League Cup game in midweek to four days later stepping on the pitch for the last time for 14 months,” said Elliot, who was in the dressing room as the team won the Cup in May.

"After having surgery in April, I am now nearing the nine month threshold and 90 per cent quadricep output before returning to competitive sport."

“This figure is essential to ensure re-injury is kept to a minimum. Therefore I should be able to return early next year."

"I have been strengthening in the gym for about four months and have been really enjoying the challenge."

"I have started doing sport specific drills and working my way into training with the boys again. I am a bit off match fitness as the boys have reminded me, but I am working on that!"

“I am so grateful to my physio, Josh Congdon at Reflex-18. From the first three weeks post-injury, Josh has supported me all the way. He has pushed me to my limits but I could not have got to where I am without him."

“He has superb facilities in Eight Ash Green that include a pool and gym, which has been influential in my rehab. I recommend him to anyone needing to overcome injury."

Elliot continued: "I have been exceptionally lucky to have wonderful support from my family, friends, physio and of course Melford to help me along the way."

“I have enjoyed working with the Reserves and seeing a young team improve and prosper, I cannot wait to join them on the pitch in the new future.”

"I‘m looking forward to putting the Melford shirt on again soon. I hope to work my way into the first team by the end of the season, but I’m also focusing on improving and developing the young reserve side.”
