Haverhill Report

HAVERHILL ROVERS 3

LONG MELFORD 1

Thurlow Nunn Premier - 08 August

Att: 131

PICTURED: 18-year-old Callum Hemson had an impressive full debut in last night's match at Haverhill Rovers.

Match report from Chenoberet...

The home team monopolised the first period, and had three great chances in the opening 4 minutes.

Melford keeper Darren Moyes saved efforts from Kelvin Enaro and Jordan Palmer in quick succession, this was quickly followed by Rafal Wozniak getting in on goal but screwing his shot wide of the post.

It was a slow start for Melford but they gradually got into the pace of the game. Their first real effort came when Will Wingfield got through on goal, was brought down but the referee ignored the shouts for a penalty.

For much of the half Melford were beaten for pace, movement and strength, and survived a number of corners and goal attempts. The home team tried hard to get the ball into the net with Harry Halls firing over the bar, then Moyes saved well from Jordan Palmer when through on goal.

Finally the deserved goal came two minutes before the half time whistle, a clearance fell to CAMERON WATSON just outside the area and he fired home through a ruck of players.

Straight from the second half kick off Haverhill doubled their lead, a Ben Bradley corner saw a flying bullet like header from JONATHON MILNE find the Melford net.

Melford adjusted their format, pushing players forward and started to look a much better team, with chances arriving for Hassan Ally and Josh Hodgson.

Haverhill increased their lead after 82 minutes when LUKE HAINES placed the ball into the Melford net from twenty yards.

Despite the deficit Melford created opportunities in the closing stages and finally the goal came in added time when JOSH HODGSON scored from close range following a corner.

MELFORD: Darren Moyes, Callum Hemson, Josh Collins, TJ Le Page (64), Anthony Waugh, Jake Jackson, Will Wingfield, Hassan Ally, Dan Swain, Josh Hodgson, Michael Schofield (83)

Subs: Luke Payne (64), Elliot Walker (83)

Subs not used: David Leader, Stuart Malseed

  • Next match for the First Team is at home to Thetford Town on Saturday (3pm) in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
