Josh Shepherd Leaves Club

Josh Shepherd: Club Statement

10 April 2018

Josh Shepherd has stepped down from his position as First Team Assistant Manager, after returning north to live in Accrington in Lancashire.

The club would like to place on record its thanks to Josh for his contribution over the past 9 months and wish him well for the future.

Although we didn't start the season as well as we hoped for, since October the results and performances have gone from strength to strength and Josh was a key factor in this improvement.

We hope to see Josh back in Melford for the end of season presentation night.

First Team Manager Jamie Bradbury:

"Josh was a terrific addition to Long Melford when he came in at the start of the season. We had a great understanding and the same ethos of how we wanted the team to progress on the pitch, and our persistence and belief in the lads was starting to pay off.

Naturally, he goes with my best wishes and I encourage any clubs in Lancashire to give him an opportunity behind the scenes as part of their coaching set-up. And, while he won’t admit it, he was an excellent stand-in for us between the sticks when he pulled the gloves back on.

A vibrant personality in the dressing room and in the dugout, he will be missed at Stoneylands.

With only six games remaining this campaign, I’m not activity seeking a replacement just yet, but would welcome any interested parties to contact the club as we begin to plan for next season.”

We also asked Josh to say a few words for the website:

"I'd like to start by saying a massive thank you to Jamie and everyone involved at Melford for giving me the opportunity to work with yourselves.

The start of the season was tough for us all but after re-grouping and going back to the drawing board we managed to turn things around and haven't looked back since.

The recent success has come from belief and self confidence from the lads and they've worked hard to put themselves in the position they are in today.

I'd like to also say a massive thanks to the supporters who came and watched us week in week out and had full faith in what we were looking to do as a club.

I'm confident in the players, staff and board and strongly believe they can finish within the top half this season.

I'll be cheering on the boys via WhatsApp and Twitter and look forward to seeing everyone at the end of season do. Once again, it's been a pleasure. "
