Match Report v FC Clacton (a) 2018/19

FC CLACTON 1 - 1 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER DIVISION - SAT 27 OCTOBER

Melford picked up their first ever point at the Rush Green Bowl since joining the Eastern Counties League in 2002 - to say Clacton has not been a happy hunting ground over the years is an understatement. However it looked like all three points until Clacton scored a late equaliser.

Both sides were in good form going into today's match, having won their previous three matches. Melford will be disappointed not to see the game out for a win but nevertheless it's a good away point. Match report from Chenoberet:

With a fresh wind at their backs Clacton started the game in positive fashion and created a number of early chances.

With 7 minutes on the clock the home team found the net only for the goal to be disallowed by an offside flag.

Over a short period thereon, Clacton created several good chances with Harry McDonald firing wide from a good position, Adam Hampson forcing Melford keeper Glen Morrison into a diving save and minutes later Karl Andrade bringing out another good save from Morrison in the Melford goal.

After 24 minutes Melford suffered another injury blow with Elliot Walker being stretchered off with suspected ligament damage to be replaced by Nathan Rowe, who went on to have an excellent game for the visitors.

After 35 minutes Melford came close to scoring a run by Callum Hemson down the Melford right flank saw his shot deflected beyond keeper Joe Fowler only for central defender Ollie Lamb to head clear off the goal line.

The best chance of the half fell to Melford after 44 minutes Will Wingfield got into the Clacton box , his advance on goal was met by keeper Fowler, who saved his shot at point blank range, the rebound then came back to Wingfield and his neat chip towards the gaping goal saw the ball hit the crossbar and go out of play.

It was Melford who looked the brighter side in the second period, forcing several free kicks, two from David Lopez cleared the bar whilst another from Pablo Chaves went wide of the post.

The opening goal for Melford arrived after 71 minutes, a forward ball from Lopez saw keeper Fowler rush off his line to collect the ball, but the pace of Hassan Ally took control of the ball from the keeper, and his squared pass saw PABLO CHAVES stroke the ball into the unguarded net.

A deserved lead for the Villagers, which nearly increased after 81 minutes with Lopez playing in Chaves who tried to place his effort from ten yards out but only found the wrong side of the post.

Again Melford came on the offensive this time a snap shot on the turn from Andy Fisher was only narrowly off target.

With spectators leaving the ground and Melford looking comfortable for a victory, a momentary lapse of concentration proved costly.

On 88 minutes home striker Adam Hampson ran at the Melford defence covering twenty yards without challenge, and his fine pass to the Clacton right flank saw KARL ANDREDE, who fire his angled shot into the net.

MELFORD: Glen Morrison, Callum Hemson (45), Dan Swain (75), Jake Jackson, Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh, Hassan Ally, Elliot Walker (24), Andy Fisher, Pablo Chaves, Will Wingfield

Subs: David Lopez (45), Nathan Rowe (24), Josh Collins (75), Jamie Bradbury
