Match Report v FC Clacton

FC CLACTON 3 - 0 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SATURDAY 18 JANUARY

Not a game that will linger long in the memory,  with the ball finding too much time in the air it was never going to be a football feast.

The home team triumphed through the simple ability to convert chances whilst Melford hit the woodwork three times.

After ten minutes Jamie Griffiths created a chance for Melford in the Clacton box but despite the close attention of three Melford players, the ball was cleared by the Clacton defence.

At the other end Clacton should have gone ahead, when a free kick found Chris Ribchester and from three yards out he headed wide.

Melford were dealt a blow on 38 minutes when Nathan Rowe had to leave the field with a gashed leg.

On 38 minutes a golden chance appeared for Melford when Ben Judge again man of the match for the visitors was fed through on goal, out came keeper Luke Avenell the ball was fired wide of the keeper only to find the goal post and go out of play.

On the half time whistle Kieran Michaels headed wide for Melford, then in another goalmouth melee, Clacton cleared the ball off the goal line.

Straight from the second half kick off Clacton moved up another gear with Ricky Griggs always prominent in attack.  In an attack initiated by Griggs, Michaels headed off the Melford goal line.

On 53 minutes Clacton went ahead, from a Billy Wales corner, with it as appeared an unmarked CHRIS RIBCHESTER heading home at the far post, with his marker Steve Adams on the ground. Despite vehement protests from Melford that Adams had been pushed to the ground, the referee deemed the goal should stand.

Soon after this Clacton nearly got another goal but Melford keeper Matt Walker made a brilliant stop with his leg.

Melford almost levelled on 60 minutes a cross come shot from Michaels hit the bar and went out of play, followed by Adams heading into the arms of keeper Avenell from two yards out.

Chances then fell at the other end with Griggs firing wide of the target and Mekhi McKenzie finding only keeper Walker with another effort.

Still Melford looked for a leveller with Judge again firing against the goal post and Michaels narrowly wide with a long range effort.

On 75 minutes Melford lost the ball in the Clacton box, a quick pass from the Clacton defence found HARRY McDONALD, who ran some forty yards, with Melford defenders out of position and fired past Walker in the Melford goal.

Just to add double icing to the cake, on 90 minutes , with Melford looking for a free kick, MEKHI McKENZIE netted via a deflection from the angle.

A prime example that in football chances have to be converted, truly shown by the home team today. CHENOBERET
