Match Report v FC Clacton

LONG MELFORD 1 - 1 FC CLACTON

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - WED 13 NOVEMBER 2019

Ahead of England's 1000th international, tonight's match was held in memory of Long Melford legend William Nevill Cobbold - the 108th player to represent England.

Long Melford's seven match winning run which started in September, a club record at Step 5 in the non-league pyramid, finally came to an end.

However, after Wroxham's defeat at Gorleston last night, a point this evening moved Melford up to 2nd.

Melford and FC Clacton are in very similar form at the moment, so this always looked like being a close game and so it proved. Match report from Chenoberet:

The Villagers had chances to take control of this game in the opening twenty minutes, with Jamie Griffiths, Jacob Brown and Tom Blackwell all having good opportunities, but being denied by keeper Ben Porter with some good saves.

After only five minutes Nathan Rowe played in TOM BLACKWELL who made no mistake, after evading keeper Porter who had come off his line.

After 18 minutes with the Melford defence looking for offside, Clacton almost levelled as Ricky Griggs ran through with his effort hitting the goal frame and going out of play. The same player headed over the Melford bar shortly after.

Clacton equalised after 38 minutes, Karl Andrade had time and space and his cross beat the Melford defence with ADAM HAMPSON stooping low to head home at the far post.

After a good first period Melford were not at their best in the second half and it was Clacton on top with Griggs, McKenzie and McDonald all threatening the Melford goal, rebutted by a couple of goal line clearances and some good keeping by Matt Walker in the Melford goal.

Both teams had the ball in the net only to be ruled out by the offside flag.

But the game ended with Melford defending the score line, and overall the draw proved to be a fair result.

LONG MELFORD: Matt Walker, Dan Smith, Will Wingfield, Ben Judge (65), Ross Waugh, Ashley Sloots, Nathan Rowe (84), Jacob Brown, Steve Adams, Jamie Griffiths, Tom Blackwell

Subs used: Archie Pether (65), Callum Hemson (84)   Subs not used: Kyle Hurley, Anthony Waugh    Att: 72
