Match Report v Gorleston (a) 2018/19

GORLESTON 2 - 1 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER DIVISION - SAT 02 FEBRUARY 2019

Melford were missing 13 first team players for today's match, with Josh Collins the latest casualty having picked up neck and thigh injuries at Hadleigh last week.

This meant a 12-man squad made the long journey to Gorleston plus manager Jamie Bradbury and coach Steve Chisholm.

Despite having a depleted team Melford put in a good performance but were undone by a 90th minute goal. Match report from Chenoberet:

Sometime there has to be a change in the luck stakes for Melford, as they with a totally depleted team certainly deserved a point from this game, but were denied by an injury time winner from the home team.

With two late call offs on Saturday morning, Melford were forced to take the long journey to Norfolk with only twelve active players.

It was almost a dream start for Melford when a Gorleston kick off pass was charged down by Nathan Rowe and the Melford player spotted keeper Peter Murphy off his line, his well struck shot passed over keeper Murphy, hit the cross bar and bounced back into play but striker Will Howe shot straight at keeper Murphy to save some home team blushes.

After eight minutes young Melford starlet full back Keiron Michaels was injured and was treated for five minutes, before hobbling back to commence playing.

The first goal came after 16 minutes a Joel Watts corner floated along the Melford area and AARON TAYLOR nodded home from 18 inches to give Gorleston the lead.

The goal spurred Gorleston on and Watts was only inches wide with a cross shot, then Connor Ingram got through on goal but 17 year old keeper Michael Bett made a fine point blank save.

Melford finished the half strongly with Michaels very close with a free kick after Nathan Rowe was fouled on the edge of the area.

The Villagers came out in a determined mood for the second half forcing several corners but no goals.

The goal did come and deservedly arrived on 61 minutes, a good crossfield ball released Hassan Ally and his pulled back cross found JACOB BROWN in a crowded goalmouth, but forced the ball into the net from close range.

It was now the turn of Melford to look the more likely side to clinch the winner, with Ally and Chaves putting ball into the box without a Melford player applying the finishing touch.

And so the game went into added time with a draw looking on the cards, but it was not to be.

Two minutes into added time the killer blow came for Melford when a ball in came into the Melford box from the Gorleston right flank and JOEL WATTS bundled the ball home.

Surely this cruel run of luck for Melford has to change before long.
