Match Report v Great Yarmouth (h)

LONG MELFORD 2 - 1 GREAT YARMOUTH TOWN

Thurlow Nunn Premier - Saturday 14 April - Att: 66

PICTURED: Steve Adams capped a man of the match performance by scoring a late winner.

It was a hard fought contest between two evenly matched sides, the sort of game Melford were losing at the start of the season.

There were three changes to the side that started at Thetford last weekend, with Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh and Elliot Walker away.

In came Steve Adams and Josh Collins who were both impressive in the centre of Melford's defence, while Ashley Sloots started at left back and also had a solid match.

Dan Smith remains sidelined through injury, Callum Hemson was back in the squad after missing Thetford last week and Sam Newton made his second appearance of the season from the subs' bench.

Match report from Chenoberet...

Both teams were minus four regulars, the win for Melford lifted them one point above the Bloaters in the League. Overall it was a good even game and the end the result could have gone either way.

The Villagers went ahead after only three minutes, Nathan Rowe put Hassan Ally through down the flank and his cross found WILL WINGFIELD who side footed home from three yards out.

Play switched to the other end Keiron Hagen got through wide on the Melford goal with home keeper James Scammell off his line, but Hagen's effort found the Melford side netting.

On the ten minute mark Ally got through to force a corner, and from the David Lopez kick Steve Adams was inches over the Yarmouth bar with his header.

The Norfolk team levelled after 20 minutes when from an edge of the box free kick CHRIS HOLMES found the top corner of the Melford net.

Just before half time Melford lost the ball to Haydn Davis on the edge of the area and his shot shaved the Melford post.

Action again came in the Melford area after 51 minutes when a great shot from Davis was pushed over the bar by Scammell in the Melford goal.

The game ebbed and flowed to each end and Melford had a great chance to double their score after 65 minutes. Lewis Haughton left his markers floundering and his accurate cross found Adams in the Yarmouth box who could only fire wide of the gaping goal.

At this period Yarmouth were edging possession, but it was Melford who came closest to scoring when a Lopez piledriver was pushed over the bar by Anis Nioli in the Yarmouth goal.

From the resultant corner in the 83rd minute the winner arrived for Melford, a Lopez corner and a thundering header from STEVE ADAMS that gave Nioli no chance.

Then it was all Yarmouth who tried to retrieve the game, a header against the Melford bar, another effort cleared off the Melford line and in the last minute of added time a strong shout for a penalty, but it was not to be and Melford picked up another three valuable points.

MELFORD: James Scammell, Jake Jackson, Ashley Sloots, Ben Judge, Steve Adams, Josh Collins, Hassan Ally, David Lopez (86), Lewis Haughton (79), Nathan Rowe (73) Will Wingfield

Subs: Callum Hemson (79), Scott Sloots (73), Sam Newton (86) not used: Jamie Bradbury
