Match Report v Hadleigh United (a) 2018/19

HADLEIGH UNITED 2 - 0 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SATURDAY 26 JANUARY 2019

PICTURED: An impressive first team debut by Under 18's keeper Michael Bett was a bright spot for Melford. Photo by Stan Baston.

There was no doubting that Hadleigh deserved their victory. Over most of the game they were quicker, more determined, and fleet of the foot.

17 year old Michael Bett looked composed in goal, and another 17 year old Kieran Michaels once again took the man of the match for Melford from the right back position. Other than that, there was little to enthuse about in the Melford camp.

The home team went ahead after 14 minutes, a ball into the box found the livewire KYLE CASSELL, and after chest trapping the ball the Hadleigh front man, swivelled and volleyed home from ten yards. An excellent goal with great technical ability attached to it.

This created a visible fillip to the Hadleigh play and it was now a question of when the second goal would arrive.

The visitors only briefly sparked with Steve Adams heading a Michaels' corner over the bar.

The second goal arrived on 24 minutes when Melford surrendered the ball on the half way line, the ball came to KEIRON TURNER who without any real challenge ran along the Melford penalty area, and his shot from twelve yards curled neatly inside the Melford goal post. Another well-taken goal.

The same player should have killed the game on 35 minutes when from six yards he sliced his shot wide of goal.

After the lacklustre first half Melford improved slightly in the second half, creating chances but finding no finisher.

The best chance arrived for Adams from a Jacob Brown cross, but from four yards the Melford captain missed his kick.

For Hadleigh, Romario Dunne came close in two attacks, whist Hadleigh keeper Nick Punter saved efforts from Deklyn Roy and Keiron Michaels.

But in truth Melford were lacking in any real goal threat whilst Hadleigh with their running and better movement off the ball always looked dangerous. CHENOBERET
