Match Report v Hadleigh Utd (a)

HADLEIGH UNITED 0 - 4 LONG MELFORD

Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Saturday 25 January

A reinvigorated Melford saw off comfortably the challenges of neighbours Hadleigh, who apart from a disallowed goal early in the game didn't look like scoring against a solid Melford defence.

The Villagers by contrast looked skilful and pacy,  all fuelled by an endless energy, and in truth the scoreline could have been greater.

After only one minute Jamie Griffiths crossed into the Hadleigh box but somehow both Steve Adams and Callum Hemson failed to find any real connection from three yards out.

The home team found the net after 11 minutes when a cross from James Ross found Josh Cheetham, who converted from close range, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The visitors deservedly went ahead on 14 minutes a cross come shot from Callum Hemson was fumbled by home keeper Nick Punter, giving JAMIE GRIFFITHS a simple tap in from two yards.

On 33 minutes Melford had another great chance, a fine cross from Kieran Michaels found the unmarked Adams who headed over the bar from three yards out.

The Villagers increased their lead in added time to the first period when a delicate cross from Griffiths was headed home by STEVE ADAMS from close range.

Although Hadleigh tried hard they didn't trouble Melford keeper Matt Walker in the second half, with the only effort of note being a shot from Joel Glover which was well wide of the goal post.

Melford took control of the game with the third goal being added on 55 minutes, Will Wingfield whipped in a cross and a great glancing header from STEVE ADAMS added to his goal tally.

Minutes later Ben Judge got through on goal but blazed his effort over the Hadleigh cross bar.

The game then got a little disjointed with a number of niggly fouls.

On 80 minutes Melford wrapped up a comprehensive victory when BEN JUDGE got in on goal and fired wide of keeper Punter from twelve yards.

For Melford this was a welcome return to scoring goals, keeping a clean sheet and taking three points.  CHENOBERET
