Match Report v Hadleigh Utd (h) 2018/19

LONG MELFORD 2 - 2 HADLEIGH UNITED

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 29 DECEMBER - ATT: 118

Overall it was a day of mixed emotions for Melford; after leading 2-0 after an hour there was obvious disappointment not to see the game out for the win.

On the other hand, these are exceptional circumstances with 14 senior players injured/unavailable, so there's no such thing as a bad point at the moment. Match report from Chenoberet:

It is never easy being a Manager, especially with some fourteen players not available through injury, holidays and sickness. Melford gaffer Jamie Bradbury had a busy Christmas period trying to get some players signed up quickly on loan or dual registrations.

In came Ashley Skeggs from Saffron Walden, Jacob Brown from Mildenhall, Emmanuel Machaya from Bury Town, and goalkeeper Sam Mansfield in his first appearance of the season. Ashley Sloots made his first appearance since September.

It was a very positive Melford throughout the first half. With Nathan Rowe shooting just wide, and then on 14 minutes Melford had a great chance to go ahead when Jacob Brown played in Will Wingfield down the Melford left flank, and his shot on the angle, just missed the far post.

At the other end Wingfield was on hand to hook away a Kris Rose header via the Melford cross bar.

With Melford looking sharper than Hadleigh, it was no surprise when they took the lead after 38 minutes.

An excellent pass from Ashley Sloots released Hassan Ally, and his final pass found EMMANUEL MACHAYA in the box and he fired home in clinical fashion for his debut goal.

Just before half time the speedy Kyle Cassell got through into the Melford box but his shot was well over the Melford cross bar.

It was Melford who were under more pressure in the second half, with Hadleigh getting much more of the play.

However at the other end Melford increased their lead after 54 minutes when a free kick from Keiran Michaels found ASHLEY SKEGGS at the far post area, and at the second attempt he found the Hadleigh net.

This seemed to spur on Hadleigh who increased the intensity of their play, and it was no surprise when on 67 minutes ROMARIO DUNNE fired home on the angle.

Now defending in numbers Melford were reeling when on 76 minutes BRETT CRISP was allowed freedom to fire home from ten yards.

On 80 minutes after a reckless tackle Melford were reduced to ten men when Nathan Rowe was shown a red card.

Just time for Kyle Ferguson to test out Melford keeper Mansfield, and for Hadleigh to defend two Melford corners.

In the end there were positives for both sides - much better from Melford after two heavy defeats, whilst Hadleigh will be happy to recover a deficit and earn a point.

MELFORD: Sam Mansfield, Kieran Michaels, Ashley Sloots, Ashley Skeggs (injured 60), Steve Adams, Anthony Waugh, Hassan Ally, Jacob Brown, Emmanuel Machaya, Nathan Rowe, Will Wingfield

Subs used: Josh Collins (60)

not used: Archie Pether, Daniel Smith, Steve Chisholm, Jamie Bradbury
