Match Report v Hadleigh Utd (League Cup)

LONG MELFORD 2 - 0 HADLEIGH UNITED

LEAGUE CUP 3rd ROUND - WED 21 NOVEMBER - ATT: 64

On a cold and frosty night Melford advanced to the quarter final stage of the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup.

Other than a twenty minute spell at the beginning of the second half, the home team always looked in control.

After 13 minutes Melford went ahead.  A ball into the box from the Melford left flank, found the unmarked SAM BAYLISS (pictured) who bearing in from the right flank fired in a well directed shot, giving keeper Glyn Dixon little chance in the Hadleigh goal.

At the other end after 28 minutes Kris Rose came close with a header from a corner for Hadleigh.

Melford were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes when Will Wingfield was brought down. DAVID LOPEZ scored from the penalty spot.

Just before half time Wingfield had his goal bound header cleared off the Hadleigh goal line.

The opening twenty minutes of the second half saw Hadleigh start to boss the game and they came close to pulling a goal back.

Melford keeper Glen Morrison pushed a shot from Danny Thrower over the bar and soon after Morrison went full length to push round the post an effort from Romario Dunne.

The Villagers weathered the pressure and brought on three substitutes and towards the end of game, created several chances with Steve Adams, Hassan Ally and Lopez all having efforts blocked on the Hadleigh goal line. CHENOBERET
