Match Report v Kirkley & Pakefield (h)

LONG MELFORD 0 - 1 KIRKLEY & PAKEFIELD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 13 APRIL - Att: 64

The game opened with chances at both ends, Jack Herbert heading wide for Kirkley, and a good run and cross from Sam Bayliss saw no one in the Melford team apply the finishing touch.

As the game continued there was little to choose between the teams. For Kirkley Jack Hutchinson was unable to cause any trouble with three free kicks, and Deklyn Roy thundered in a shot for The Villagers only to see it blocked out of play by the visiting defence.

Just before the halftime whistle both teams had chances a Bayliss cross for Melford found Kieran Michaels but his effort cleared the Kirkley bar. From a Hutchinson corner Herbert again put his header wide.

Four minutes into the second half Kirkley won the game with a scrappy goal after a scramble in the Melford goalmouth Kaidan Goldspink fired against the Melford bar the ball then deflected onto a post, and then found the net via the leg of Michael Bett the Melford keeper. With KAIDAN GOLDSPINK claiming the goal.

On 69 minutes the Melford bench and supporters were very displeased with the officials when it appeared in a Melford attack that a Kirkley defender handled the ball in the penalty box but the referee awarded a free kick just outside the area, citing a shirt tug which happened before the handling incident.

And so the game petered out without any further real action and  Melford still lacking finish in the box, and relegation a closer prospect with only three league matches left this season. CHENOBERET
