Match Report v Norwich United (a)

NORWICH UNITED 2 - 3 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 19 OCTOBER 2019

Long Melford continue to defy the odds with another superb victory at 2nd-placed Norwich United.

Melford were minus four of last weekend's starters due to injury but Callum Hemson came back into the squad.

There was also a first start of the season for club stalwart Ashley Skeggs with nearly 250 matches under his belt, while under 18 defender Josh Norris also came into the squad.

Melford started well with Jamie Griffiths firing across the face of the goal and Sam Bayliss getting in a good cross.

Melford went ahead on 28 minutes when JAMIE GRIFFITHS fired a free kick from the angle of the box, the bounce deceived the home keeper and went into the far corner of the net.

Norwich seldom threatened against a resolute Melford defence and Griffiths went close again before half time.

Norwich put Melford under pressure at the start of the second half and Matt Walker made some outstanding saves to keep his team ahead.

The visitors doubled their lead when Dan Swain and Griffiths worked space on 58 minutes and ASHLEY SKEGGS scored from close range.

Norwich introduced their subs and pulled a goal back when LIAM JACKSON headed home from a right wing corner.

A few minutes later worse was to follow when HAYDN DAVIS got through the middle of the Melford defence to net the equaliser.

Norwich then threw everything at Melford but the defence stood firm.

Melford's never say die attitude shone through and CALLUM HEMSON netted a close range winner with only a few minutes left on the clock.

LONG MELFORD: Matt Walker, Dan Smith, Ross Waugh (c), Ashley Sloots Dan Swain, Jake Jackson, Jacob Brown, Callum Hemson, Sam Bayliss, Ashley Skeggs, Jamie Griffiths

Sub used: Kyle Hurley (for Skeggs), unused: Josh Norris, Steve Chisholm, Jamie Bradbury  Att: 68
