Match Report v Saffron Walden Town

Long Melford 0 - 4 Saffron Walden Town

Thurlow Nunn Premier - 06 Sep 2017 - Att: 77

Apart from one or two chances soon after the start, Melford were a distant second to their Essex visitors who recorded a comfortable victory.

In the opening exchanges Melford's Michael Schofield fired over the bar after good wing play by Hassan Ally. At the other end Graeme Turner twice came close for Walden who took control of the match as the half wore on.

The first goal came after 43 minutes for the visitors, the excellent wide player Thomas Lakin left the Melford defence floundering and his fine cross was met by GRAEME TURNER who headed home via the underside of the bar.

There was no improvement in the second period for The Villagers, caught in possession far too often they were made to pay again after 56 minutes Lakin crossing for FLYNN TARMAN to score from five yards out.

At times it was one way traffic and after 85 minutes Lakin put in JOE MURPHY to rattle the ball home.

In added time a great run and cross by James Crane saw THOMAS LAKIN dive and head home.

A good display from Saffron Walden, while Melford will need a much improved performance in Saturday's FA Vase local derby with Halstead Town (3pm kick off at Stoneylands).
