Match Report v Walsham (a) 2018/19

WALSHAM-LE-WILLOWS 2 - 0 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 6th APRIL 2019

A superb first half performance from Melford saw them control the entire 45 minutes but without taking their chances they were made to pay in the second half.

Early in the game Steve Adams was only inches wide, in another attack the Melford skipper then rocked the bar with a looping header.

Then Melford youngster Keiran Michaels powered in a thirty yard drive which Walsham keeper Dan Stobbart dived full length to push round the post.

Such was the Melford dominance that in the first twenty minutes Melford keeper Michael Bett had only two free kicks from Lee Warren to deal with.

Melford continued to attack with Hassan Ally tormenting the home defence, and Melford central defender Ross Waugh again scraping the bar with a header and just before half time Deklyn Roy just cleared the cross bar with another well struck effort.

The second half was a different story with Walsham at last looking like a top five team, and Melford were under a defensive siege at times.

The home team introduced from the bench three substitutes and their pace and energy had an immediate impact on the game.

A quick break after 58 minutes saw GEORGE BUGG escape the Melford defence to fire home, and the lead increased after 67 minutes when RYAN TWINN ran through without challenge to net from five yards.

Melford continued to defend stoutly but the whole attacking momentum had gone from their game.

Despite all efforts they surrendered all the points, when in reality they should have gone in at the interval with a comfortable lead and gained something from the match. CHENOBERET
