Match Report v Walsham (a)

WALSHAM-LE-WILLOWS 1 - 2 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SATURDAY 05 OCTOBER

PICTURED: Ben Judge played his 50th match for the club today, in Long Melford's third consecutive win.

After the super charged victory against Wroxham last week, Melford dropped in ability to a below par performance, and the home team under new management will wonder how they did not salvage a point from the game.

An attacking Walsham saw Melford keeper Matt Walker come to the rescue with a point blank save from the tricky Tanner Call who wriggled into space behind the Melford back line only to be defied by the Melford keeper.

Melford took the lead after 18 minutes a Dan Swain free kick found Jamie Griffiths and his well struck effort was blocked and the ball found youngster CALLUM HEMSON who fired with great accuracy from the Melford left flank into the far post net.

Again Melford became victims of the Sin Bin ruling from an inconsistent referee, who booked Ross Waugh due to a challenge on Call, and he on 29 minutes was Sin Binned after protesting to the official.

Soon followed by a Sin Bin for Nathan Rowe for over protesting to the official after 43 minutes.

Shortly after this Hemson flashed a shot just wide for Melford, whilst on the half time whistle Walsham had three efforts in quick time cleared off the Melford goal line.

The second half started well for Walsham with both Craig Nurse and Lee Sim putting good efforts in on the Melford goal.

On 58 minutes Christmas came early for Walsham, when under pressure and facing his own goal Nathan Rowe played the ball straight to the feet of TANNER CALL who raced into the Melford area, to slot the ball wide of Walker in the Melford goal.

On 63 minutes Melford went ahead again when after being fouled on the edge of the penalty area, JAMIE GRIFFITHS got up and neatly fired home the free kick.

On 84 minutes Nathan Rowe was unlucky when his header was finger-tipped wide by Dan Stobbart the home keeper.

Plenty of huffing and puffing in the closing minutes from both teams, but the nearest to another goal was a shot from Ryan Clark which was dealt with by Walker in the Melford goal. CHENOBERET
