Match Report v Wetherden

LONG MELFORD RES. 6 - 0 WETHERDEN

ST. NICHOLAS HOSPICE CUP SEMI-FINAL - WED 02 MAY 2018

Wetherden from the Bury Sunday League were the visitors to Stoneylands tonight.

Melford had a strong squad available, including 5 players who have played for the 1st Team this season.

It was a comfortable win but credit to Wetherden who never stopped battling and had the chances to score a goal or two.

Melford took the lead after six minutes when the pace of new signing PABLO CHAVES took him to the edge of the box and he crashed the ball home from the angle.

Visiting goalkeeper Tom Marsden made a brilliant save from the pacey Chaves a minute later and Marsden was certainly the man of the match for the visitors.

The second Melford goal arrived after 38 minutes when a quick break from a Wetherden corner saw DEKLYN ROY arrive in the box to score at the second attempt.

Two efforts of note in the first half from Wetherden, both over the bar from Tom Marshall and substitute Simeon Pattison.

One minute into the second half and Melford went further ahead, a thirty yard shot from GEORGE DAY wriggled through keeper Marsden into the net.

On 60 minutes Melford made it four when a great run from Jake Ashley down the Melford right flank saw his cross find KEIRON FISHER who side footed home.

Three minutes later and Melford went further ahead when GEORGE DAY ran through the defence to net a fine solo goal.

Soon after JAKE ASHLEY scored another fine individual goal.

Thereafter the visitors had more of the game and had the chances to pull a goal or two back but the scoreline remained the same.

Man of the match for Melford was  new Spanish signing Pablo Chaves.

MELFORD: Shane Bethell, Ryan Carter, Sam Newton, Ryan McNicholas, Deklyn Roy, Craig Lee, Pablo Chaves, Elliot Walker, Aaron Pengelly, Andy Fisher, Keiron Fisher

Subs all used: Jake Ashley, George Day, Stuart Malseed
