Match Report v Wroxham (a) 2018/19

WROXHAM 2 - 2 LONG MELFORD

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 15 DECEMBER - ATT: 89

PICTURED: Hassan Ally scored two goals for Melford who picked up a valuable away point at 4th-placed Wroxham.

The game was marred by gusting SW winds and some very debatable decisions from the officials.

Melford started with the wind at their backs and created several early chances, in their first attack Hassan Ally crossed and Steve Adams headed inches wide.

Then Wroxham responded with ex Canary Simon Lappin putting his low shot a distance wide of the Melford goal.

The visitors had an escape after 17 minutes a slip in the Melford defence allowed in Sonny Carey with an open goal at his mercy for his shot to go a yard wide of goal.

On 23 minutes it looked as though a close range effort from Pablo Chaves had found the net but an acrobatic save from keeper George Macrae saved the day for Wroxham.

Two minutes later and after what looked like a fair tackle to all, other than the referee, resulted in a penalty for Wroxham. Sonny Carey put the kick wide.

A poor Melford pass found ISAAC BURRAGE free in the Melford box to sidefoot home.

Five minutes later Melford levelled from a corner. Adams headed low towards goal and HASSAN ALLY chested into the net.

On 31 minutes Melford went ahead, a big kick from keeper Glen Morrison cleared the Wroxham defence and HASSAN ALLY nipped in and lobbed the advancing keeper to find the net.

Just before the half time whistle Ally was chopped to the ground by Mac Gee with everyone expecting a red card, somehow the referee deemed it only a yellow card offence.

Chances came at both ends in the second half with Wroxham levelling on 64 minutes from the penalty spot, SIMON LAPPIN converting. No doubt about the penalty this time as keeper Morrison brought down Nathan Stewart, except the assistant referee was behind play and even to some home supporters he appeared at least half a yard offside.

Near misses at both ends but probably the draw was about a fair result. CHENOBERET
