Match Report v Wroxham (away)

WROXHAM 1 - 1 LONG MELFORD

Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Saturday 22 February

  • Ross Waugh scored his 5th goal of the season in today's draw at FA Vase quarter-finalists Wroxham.

The home team kicked off down the slope with the gusting diagonal south westerly wind partly at their backs.

In the first minute Melford threatened when Jamie Griffiths ran at the Wroxham defence only to be bundled over with the referee issuing a very early yellow card.

In Wroxham's first real attack after 13 minutes their best player Jerry Dasaolu, cut his way through the Melford defence, only to put his effort over the Melford crossbar.

There was a quick Melford response with Ben Judge getting in on the Wroxham goal only for keeper Ollie Sutton to make a fine save.

At the other end Melford keeper Matt Walker pushed round the post a shot from Lappin and from the resultant corner Melford right back Dan Smith cleared off the goal line an effort from Charlie Clarke the Wroxham striker.

The Villagers deservedly went ahead on 44 minutes, a Melford free kick found Steve Adams and his header across the box was brilliantly volleyed home by ROSS WAUGH one of the Melford centre backs.

With full back Dan Smith injured Melford started the second half by bringing on Callum Hemson.

It was much better from Wroxham in the second half, with a Ryan Oakley cross flashing over the Melford goal mouth but not finding a finish.

Melford responded with Judge bringing out a good save from Sutton the home keeper.

Whilst Wroxham seemed to have found some impetus, Melford seemed subdued after their good first half.

On 58 minutes Wroxham levelled with the Melford defence back peddling, a fine ball to the Wroxham left flank found JERRY DASAOLU the goal side of his marker, and the gifted player cut in to fire home.

This inspired the home team who still have promotion ambitions, and they put Melford under some serious pressure.

The golden chance came on 84 minutes when a Kieron Smith cross flashed across the Melford goal mouth with no one able to convert to a goal.

In the last minute of added time Melford very nearly snatched victory, some excellent play by Griffiths saw his cross from the left flank find Ben Judge and his fine on target volley was pushed over the bar by Sutton, to retain a point for the home team. CHENOBERET
