Match Report v Wroxham (h) 2018/19

LONG MELFORD 1 - 4 WROXHAM

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SAT 03 NOVEMBER - ATT: 60

PICTURED: Pablo Chaves was on the scoresheet for the third consecutive match on an otherwise disappointing day. Melford matched their high-flying opponents in the first half but were second best after the break and Wroxham won comfortably in the end to move up to 2nd in the table. [PHOTO: www.suffolkfa.com]

Overall the visitors crowned their victory with a clinical second half finishing class, whilst Melford will rue their inability to convert some golden chances in the first period of the game.

In the opening minute of the game the visitors had two great chances Cruise Nyadzayo got through down the Wroxham right hand flank, but his well hit effort hit the Melford post and went out of play, followed shortly after by Jordan Bond heading tamely into the arms of Glen Morrison in the Melford goal .

The Villagers then started to get into their stride with Andy Fisher having his effort hacked off the Wroxham goal line, and shortly after Fisher found the Wroxham net only for the effort to be disallowed through offside.

After 24 minutes Wroxham took the lead, cutting in from a wide right position NATHAN STEWART fired wide of the advancing Morrison to find the net.

This spurred Melford into action, Hassan Ally shooting wide, and shortly after crossing for Pablo Chaves to put his effort wide of goal.

The Villagers continued to press with Ross Waugh just unable to get in a header in front of a gaping goal.

Finally on 41 minutes the leveller came, again some fine wing work from Hassan Ally saw his pulled back cross find PABLO CHAVES for the man from Granada to side foot home.

Whilst Melford shaded the first period, Wroxham certainly took the second half.

On 55 minutes Morrison in the Melford goal did well to save a fierce shot from Marcus Wilkinson introduced from the subs bench for the visitors.

On 62 minutes with Melford temporarily down to 10 men with centre back Ross Waugh off the pitch for five minutes, Wroxham went ahead when an excellent shot from SONNY CAREY found the Melford net from 12 yards.

The lead was increased after 70 minutes when Anthony Waugh brought down Nathan Stewart in the box and JORDAN BOND converted from the penalty spot.

The Villagers tried to respond and came close with Steve Adams heading narrowly over the bar.

Just before the end a poor clearance from Melford keeper Glen Morrison went straight to SONNY CAREY who fired into the gaping net from 15 yards.

Overall a deserved victory for Wroxham and a below par second half performance from the Villagers. CHENOBERET
