Match Report v Wroxham (h)

LONG MELFORD 1 - 0 WROXHAM

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER - SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER

PICTURED: Jamie Griffiths scored the winner in Long Melford's fourth consecutive home victory in all competitions.

This was Melford's sixth win of the season and arguably their best so far, defeating an in-form Wroxham side who started the day in 3rd place.

Blustery conditions had the potential to ruin this contest, but both sides adapted well with the early exchanges very even.

Captain Stephen Adams had the best chance for Melford in the first half when a goalmouth scramble nearly produced the opening goal, but for some bodies on the line for Wroxham.

It was Wroxham themselves who had a great chance to go in one up just before the break, but new signing Matt Walker (signed on a dual registration from Coggeshall Town) stood tall and denied what looked a certain Wroxham goal.

The second half continued in the same style as the first, with both teams matching each other until a moment of magic from Long Melford’s number 10 Jamie Griffiths.

Dan Swain picking the ball up in the centre circle, provided a lovely ball over the Wroxham defence, JAMIE GRIFFITHS took it on his chest then volleyed into the top corner of the net.  A goal worthy of winning any match.

Melford then stood firm, and never looked in any real danger of conceding the equaliser, with the back four and goalkeeper outstanding in protecting the clean sheet.

It was Melford who looked the more dangerous in adding to the scoreline., but the full time whistle went with a much deserved 3 points.

Two wins in four days for Melford, both superb displays.

LONG MELFORD: Matt Walker, Jake Jackson, Ben Judge, Dan Swain, Ross Waugh, Anthony Waugh, Nathan Rowe, Jacob Brown, Steve Adams, Jamie Griffiths, Will Wingfield

Subs used: Callum Hemson, Dan Smith  not used: Kyle Hurley  Att: 60
