Match Report
THURLOW NUNN PREMIER DIVISION ~ Saturday 29 April 2017
KIRKLEY & PAKEFIELD 2
LONG MELFORD 1
Att: 128
Hit by injuries, suspensions and holiday absentees, Melford's long journey was nearly rewarded by a point, only to lose to a very late goal from the home team.
The Villagers started with the strong wind behind them on a hard and bumpy surface. Twice in the opening minutes Melford came close a Will Wingfield header into the side netting and a Scott Sloots shot that had home keeper Luis Tibbles diving full length to push round the post.
The opening goal came after 19 minutes when Ashley Skeggs flicked the ball into the path of SCOTT SLOOTS who thumped the ball into the roof of the net.
The leveller came after 25 minutes when what looked to everyone other than the officials an offside position NATHAN STONE ran through to fire past Darren Moyes in the Melford goal.
The game continued in the second half to be very scrappy with both teams guilty of some poor passing and finishing.
After losing Will Wingfield through injury at half time, ten minutes later Ashley Skeggs had to go off to be replaced by coach Jamie Bradbury who moved to lead the Melford front line.
On 77 minutes another fine effort from Sloots saw Tibbles fist away when a goal looked on the cards.
On 86 minutes Melford almost went ahead when a Dan Swain cross found an unmarked Bradbury and his sweetly struck volley was only inches wide of the post.
As most people prepared for the final whistle, up popped NATHAN STONE on 88 minutes to beat Moyes with a wind assisted cross come shot which beat the keeper and found the top corner of the net.
Not a great game for the last one of the season, which in a just world Melford deserved at least a point. CHENOBERET
