Reserves Report v East Bergholt

LONG MELFORD RES. 9 - 3 EAST BERGHOLT UTD RES.

DAYS SPORTS SUFFOLK SENIOR RESERVE CUP - SAT 29 SEP - ATT: 33

What an excellent Reserves playing unit Melford have with the whole team playing some very attractive football, particularly outstanding were the 16 year old midfield duo of Cory Willings and Callum Denson who bossed the midfield for much of the game.

After Will Howe had been fouled in the area, ADDY ROY put Melford ahead after 8 minutes from the penalty spot.

The visitors have in Ben Hicks a 16 year old keeper of great promise who made several fine saves throughout the game.

After 17 minutes some excellent play by Perry Newman saw his shot rattle the post and WILL HOWE stuck home the rebound.

In a rare Bergholt attack Sam Mansfield made a fine save off his line at the feet of Tom Laitt, to keep the score line intact for Melford.

The third goal for Melford was of great quality a thirty five yard diagonal ball from Cory Willings found George Day in space down the Melford left flank, and his shot come cross found WILL HOWE who crashed home from close range.

Just two minutes into the second period and Melford went further ahead, some good work between Josh Collins and Cory Willings saw the ball arrive in the box and PERRY NEWMAN fired home.

The next goal came after 52 minutes set up by George Day with PERRY NEWMAN applying the finishing touch.

On 54 minutes and the same combination a George Day cross and PERRY NEWMAN heading home.

Bergholt then came back with three goals, on 63 minutes JOSH HAYWARD from a corner kick, six minutes later and TRISTAN KING headed home from a crossbar rebound. On 76 minutes the evergreen IAN GEDNY netted from 35 yards having spotted keeper Mansfield off his line.

This caused Melford to respond, on 83 minutes Kieron Fisher pulled the ball back for ADDY ROY to side foot home. On 85 minutes Newman was brought down in the area by keeper Hicks and ADDY ROY converted the penalty.

Finally on 90 minutes GEORGE DAY deservedly fired home from the angle. CHENOBERET
