Reserves Report v Whitton Utd
LONG MELFORD RES. 1 - 1 WHITTON UTD RES.
THURLOW NUNN RESERVE LEAGUE - SAT 01 FEBRUARY
Melford will reflect on this result and rue the fact that they only got a point, when chances went begging including a saved penalty late in the game.
In the opening minutes Whitton signalled their attacking intentions when Sheneal Clarke broke through and his shot rebounded off the Melford goal post.
Melford had the ball in the net through Callum Hemson but the goal was ruled out by the offside flag. Again Whitton threatened with Clarke firing against the post.
On 38 minutes Melford took a deserved lead when Josh Collins crossed into the Whitton box and a powerful strike from RICHARD DANIELS glanced both goal posts and eventually found the net.
As in the first Melford enjoyed more of the ball in the second half with Whitton threatening with quick breaks.
Time and time again Melford failed to convert chances, with a Kieran Michaels effort finding the goal post.
It was a blow for Melford when star man Daniels had to leave the field after a nasty foul, and The Villagers missed his presence dearly.
On 71 minutes Melford allowed in CHASE HOLLAND down the Whitton right flank and he rifled home from the angle.
On 86 minutes a blatant push in the back saw Melford awarded a penalty, the resultant effort by Michaels saw keeper Jack Markham make a full length save and therefore retain intact, the scoreline for the visitors.
