Reserves Update

LONG MELFORD RES  4  HOLLAND RES  2

(THURLOW NUNN RESERVE LEAGUE, SAT 31 OCTOBER)

After the temporary blip last week Melford Reserves got back to winning ways and moved up to 3rd in the table. It was an emphatic win which was not reflected by the scoreline. Some great goalkeeping by George Evenett the Holland keeper and the goal uprights saved the visitors from a heavier defeat.

The visitors showed Melford how to score goals when after 4 minutes recent signing LENNARD TULLOCH-MARSH ghosted past three Melford defenders to net a fine individual goal.

The Villagers responded on 11 minutes when a raking pass found HASSAN ALLY wide on the Melford flank, and the Melford wide man cut in past two defenders and scored at the near post.

Time and time again Melford got into the Holland box, but some good defending and classy goalkeeping defied all their efforts, with Jack Delaune coming close on three attempts and Archie Pether having his two efforts saved by keeper Evenett.

It looked certain to be another goal when Callum Hemson got though the visiting defence but sliced his effort wide of the Holland goal.

On the odd moments Holland looked dangerous on the break with Dan Hayes and Quinn Taylor always looking a threat.

On 79 minutes at last the deadlock was broken Alfie Parnell was brought down in the Holland box and KYLE HURLEY neatly tucked the penalty away.

On 82 minutes the lead increased when CHARLIE HOLMES chested the ball down and neatly slotted the ball home.

Another goal arrived for Melford on 84 minutes when JACK DELAUNE fired home a deserved goal from 12 yards.

In added time with Melford losing concentration Holland added a second when an excellent cross from Ben Vickers saw HARRY KNIGHT head forcefully into the net.

A welcome win for Melford but some work on finishing and moving the ball quicker would make that winning task much easier. CHENOBERET
