The View From The Dugout

The View From The Dugout

" We were all gutted to go out of the FA Cup on Wednesday night, the journey had been so much fun and we wanted it to continue, but it just wasn’t to be. Over the course of the two games we had a few good chances but overall probably didn’t ever hit our best.

But we mustn’t forget what these lads have done this season. Winning one game in the Cup is one of our main targets each season, so to pick up two wins and go close to a third, bringing in some much-welcomed funds for the club, we should all be very proud of what they have achieved for Long Melford.

It was also great to get a big local derby back to Stoneylands and see so many supporters come through the gates. We’d love to see some of them back here throughout the season and get behind the boys again.

We’d also like to thank all those behind the scenes at the club for their hard work and making the night such a good one for local football. Your efforts don’t go unnoticed.

It's now about turning our attentions back to the bread and butter of league football and looking to build on a positive start to the season by putting some points on the board as we play a bit of catch-up.

Histon are our guests tomorrow afternoon, a side who, like us, will be licking their wounds following FA Cup elimination in midweek.

It was only last month that we played Histon at their place, and felt we were massively unlucky not to come away with at least a point after a really good performance, but a couple of quick-fire goals from the home side turned the game on its head and we weren’t able to get back into it in the final 15 minutes.

They are a very strong and solid side and will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, no doubt about it, so we need to be at our very best to get anything. We feel that, on our day, we are capable of beating anyone in this division, as we proved against Histon here in February, but we have to be more consistent than we have been. "
